State-Specific Dually Eligible Beneficiaries Data Profiles

Data can help state agency officials to better understand dually eligible beneficiaries in their state and improve the programs that serve them. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reports information on dually eligible beneficiary demographics, service utilization, spending, and other characteristics, but states may need support in accessing and interpreting these data.

To assist state agencies, ICRC can create a customized data profile that presents an overview of their dually eligible beneficiaries. States may request a data profile customized to include variables of interest.

Subject to approval by the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office (MMCO) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), ICRC will set up a call with the state to discuss its goals and needs, create the profile, and then assist the state in understanding the information provided.

Profiles will use the most recent publicly available data. Demographic, coverage, chronic conditions, service use, and spending data are from 2012; program enrollment data is from the last complete calendar month; and data on types of dually eligible beneficiaries is from the prior year.
