This webinar provides an overview of Medicare and Medicaid behavioral health benefits (including mental health and substance use disorder benefits) for dually eligible individuals. It includes a summary of recent expansion of Medicare coverage of behavioral health services and providers, as well as opportunities and strategies for states to improve coordination of behavioral health benefits in their Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs).

Learning Objectives: By the end of this presentation, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand prevalence of certain behavioral health conditions and trends in behavioral health spending and service use among dually eligible individuals;
  • Describe Medicare and Medicaid behavioral health benefit and coverage, including recent expanded Medicare coverage of behavioral health providers and services and considerations for state Medicaid programs;
  • Understand the challenges that result from misaligned Medicare and Medicaid behavioral health benefits; and
  • Describe strategies for better integrating Medicare and Medicaid behavioral health benefits for dually eligible individuals.
